The Himalayasare known as the young fold mountains because they have been formed only few million years ago. They were formed because of thefolding of the earth's crust due to tectonic activity (fold mountains are formed when two tectonic plates collide with one another).

the Himalayas are called the young fold mountains the three reasons are :-
1) because they were formed about 10 million years ago which is not too old for any mountain
2) these Mountains are formed by the collision of two land masses which in result made them a fold mountain
3) some more examples of young fold mountains are andes and trithopus range
