why are the Mirrors fitted on the outside of cars convex?

If you think of the main purpose of having a side mirrors fitted outside of the vehicle, you can find a way to answer this question. By having a mirror outside, driver wants to see as much as he/she could which is behind him. So in order to do this mirror just have to create images which are smaller than the actual object. Then the driver  can see a large area from a small mirror. And also the images have to be upright.

Convex mirror is used as rear view mirror in car because a convex mirror diverges the incident light Ray and always forms an erect and a small image between pole and focus . This enables us to use it as a rear view mirror by a driver to see all the traffic behind him approaching the mirror shows that a convex mirror has a wider field of view than a plane mirror
