Explanation:

Man is curious by nature. Curiosity drives him to know about his past, ancestors, heritage and roots.

The exhibits in museums provide a glimpse of such evidences. A museum is a place where history comes to life. It is not only a storehouse of ancient and historical artefacts but also of knowledge. A visit to a museum is both informative and educative. We can acquire knowledge about history, zoology, anthropology, art and culture.

My visit to the Indian Museum in my city Kolkata was a very enlightening. The museum is divided into several sections or halls. We decided to visit the zoological hall first. There I had my first glimpse of a mummy. It is few thousand years old. It reminded me of the Egyptian civilisation. Mummies are preserved dead bodies of human and animals in chemicals, prepared for burial.

There were also skeletons of dinosaurs, crocodiles, elephants, whales of past ages. Stuffed birds and various species were also on display. I was extremely interested and impressed when I visited the archaeological hall where things of the prehistoric days are on display.

Coins of various shapes, sizes and age were among the exhibits. All were made of various metals, some were gold, others silver and bronze, and of other different metals too. The coins give us an insight about the historical ages they belong to. The ones belonging to the age of Kushana king Kanishka and the Gupta Age with the carvings of Samudra Gupta were very interesting.
