Rivers coming down from mountains bring the essential mineral along with then and when the river reaches plains the sediments containing minerals gets deposited along the bank of the river .River changes its path thus the minerals are spread to most of the parts in the plains. Ex- Punjab is the state where 5 rivers flow , Jhelum, Ravi, Chenab, satluj and beas . These rivers bring the minerals ( that are essential for soil to be more fertile) from Himalayan region and thus making Punjab's land most fertile in India. Also Punjab recieve a good amount of rainfall because Himalayas acts as barrier for clouds and winds Making it rain in Punjab. That's all I know the basics.
