Why are the people of Coorg known as descendants of the Arabs?

The people of Coorg are also known as the descendants of the Arab people because of the long black coat worn by them with an embroidered waist band. This is called kuppia in Coorg and resembles the kuffia worn by the Arabs and Kurds. The Coorg Regiment is one of the most decorated in the Indian Army.
