Why are the shells of atom is starting from K?

the atomic number of k is 19.
therefore,
in first shell,2 electrons
second shell,8 electrons
third shell,9 electrons.

Because the scientist who discovered k shell has suspicious about the shell he discovered is not very small means the arrangement of shell will be collapsed.so,he named the shell as k shell.
