The outermost and southernmost Himalayan range facing the Northern Plains is called Shivaliks. They are made up of loose, unconsolidated materials like boulders, stones, pebbles and soil.
The Shivalik Range is prone to earthquakes because it is located on the boundary of Eurasian plate and Indo-Australian plate. the Indian plate is still moving towards the Eurasian plate and pushing it in the northward direction. Whenever the pressure inside the earth increases, the collision is enormous and sometimes it is released in the form of earthquake.
