Why are the stomata in most plants more numerous on the lower surface of a leaf instead of being on the upper surface?

Stomata are present in lower part of the leaf in more number as the rate of evaporation is less than the upper part of leaf. Lower part does not come in direct contact of sunlight so it prevents excess loss of water from stomata....

I guess to avoid water loss due to transportation. Upper part of the leaf is more exposed to sunlight.
