Tears and also sweat is salty.In fact every body fluid of humans are saline in nature.
This is due to the presence of sodium and potassium salts present in our body cells.Salt comes from the food that we intake .Salt helps to maintain body fluids and also helps in transmission of chemical messages in our nerve and muscle cells.

There is about 1 cup of salt in adult human body. All our body secretions have salt in them, from sweat to urine to saliva to tears. Without tears, our eyes would dry out and we would lose our vision. The salt in them has immunological and physiological purposes.
