The Bay of Bengal, located in the northeast of the Indian Ocean, is responsible for the formation of some of the strongest and deadliest tropical cyclones in the world. The Andaman Sea is further to the south and east of the region but there is no reason to expect that would be frequent tropical cyclones in that region as well. In summer, strong winds blow from the southwest to the northeast through that area, bringing significant moisture—and rain, to the region. Low pressure areas in the Andaman Sea can readily develop into tropical cyclones in the summer.
