Why are the tropical evergreen forests not commercially utilised despite having luxuriant vegetation?

Once started any large scale commercial utilisation would denude the green cover as a permanent loss and result in massive soil erosion. Tropical forests that are perennially (ever) green, act like lungs for the Earth supplying much of the Oxygen by recycling.
