Well since latitude goes vertical it would be marked with a N or S since North is up and South is down. Longitudes go horizontal so it would be marked with East or West

as we know that latitudinal extent goes from north to south of India so we write 'n' or 's'
while longitudinal extent goes west to east so that's why we write 'e' or 'w'
