Answer:

The heavy rains pounding parts of Karnataka have kept away tourists, who were until recently thronging monsoon tourism destinations to enjoy the pleasant showers. Tourist accommodations and tour operators have been reporting a drop in booking numbers this month, though August usually sees a sizeable number of tourists, especially around Independence Day.

The management of coorghomestays.com, a curator website for around 30 homestays in Kodagu, has reported a drop of 50% to 60% in bookings compared to last year. “June and July are lean seasons. But usually there are a lot of visitors during the weekends. Until the last monsoon, people did come to Kodagu as the rains were not this heavy. This month, many visitors have decided not to come, or to cancel or postpone their bookings,” said a member of the management.
