There are different kinds of harmful and non-harmful chemicals in a chemistry lab. They may have a corrosive action on the wood. They may react with the metal and may produce hazardous gases which can cause harm to us. This is not the case with tiles

Ans. Acids are corrosive in nature, so they have a tendency to damage the surface they come in contact with. So they will damage wood as well as react with metals to form hazardous gases but in case of tiles they are non reactive. So to protect and to keep the working tables and shelves clean, they are covered with tiles.
