Which are the push factors?
Employment - The cities will always be more crowded than the rural areas. Most people working in the countryside became unemployed when out of season. This leaves them without a choice and pushes them to migrate into the urban areas.
Low wages - What do you get when working in a rural area? Despite working hard and long hours farmers still only received just enough money to survive. Farming jobs are still poorly paid, especially if you are working on your own, without having a huge land or a company behind you.

Living conditions - Housing was of poor quality with thin walls, windows with no glass and leaking roofs.

Jobs - Lots of different options for employment in the town. You have the option to choose and to decide whether you want to work hard and make more money, or you can take it slow and still make some money. Working 8 hours a day in the office can’t compare to the work environment when being a farmer.
Education - Children can get a better education, which is less likely in the countryside. For many families this is the only factor that helps them make their decision when in doubt.
Living conditions - Houses are thought to be of better quality in the cities. People usually know that they would not be able to buy a house but believed that renting a property or a few rooms would be much better than what they can have in the countryside.
