Heya

According to current status of environment
There may be three reasons mainly
1 . Human anthropogenic activities
2. Climate change
3. Global warming
Explanation :
The rays that hit the Earth used to be able to get out of the atmosphere due to ozone layer but due to urbanisation, industrialisation the ozone layer as being getting hole. Now the ultra voilet rays are able to get in and mix with the air pollution as result the heat rays are being locked under the atmosphere, and where we humans are located it is more . As a result the earth is warming up. Patagonia, Canada and Greenland are not the only places suffering (one of the major reason is even migrations) . For example the Himalayas glaciers are melting which is a huge problem for the people on the banks who use that water to bathe and to drink. I know this wasn't part of your question, but if we don't be careful, sea levels will rise massively which could result in flooding coastlines. Think about the Netherlands! they are BELOW sea level...
This is the present scenario. And lets change it.

Hope it helps u all☺️
