see if you want to classify with respect to physical properties then they are liquid, solid and vapors but according to chemistry, they are metals, non-metals and metalloids

utkarshbansal18: the question is WHY?? Why plasma and BE condensate are basic states of matter??
sankalpb3: because there is no such another state of matter in which the particular matter is found or the particular matter exist
utkarshbansal18: @sankalpb3 and @whizzy...these are not the proper answers... there are 2 types of forces in the universe... 1 is attractive ( inter-molecular force of attraction) and 2 is repulsive ( thermal agitation)....if attractive forces are more than repulsive then it results into solids , if attractive forces are = to repulsive then it results into liquids and if repulsive forces are greater than attractive than it results into gases....
utkarshbansal18: hope u are clear now
utkarshbansal18: ??
sankalpb3: hey Utkarshbansal18 we are only taking about only states of matter not of forces
utkarshbansal18: but technically forces are responsiible for the existence of the three basic states of matter....!!

we see the inter molecular gaps to classify the matter so we have only three options.
