Thermal power plants are located near coalfields because -

• In the thermal power plants ,the electricity is generated from the combustion process of the fossil fuels like coal.

• So,we can say that the coal is an important raw material for the thermal power plant.

• Now,if the thermal power plant is situated near the coalfields then the transportation time and transportation cost for delivering the coal will reduce a lot.

• As a result the production will be more efficient and profitable also.
