Why are tools and machine parts made from iron smeared with grease or oil??? ​

The tools are smeared with oil and grease to increase the smoothness or when it is cooking in a a fire, to make sure it is not getting rusted. They are also protected by coating a thin layer of zinc on them. This process is known as galvanization. It is basically a hack to protect the iron tools.
