Tooth paste are basic in nature because bacteria in our mouth digest food remain trapped in between two teeth and realise acid there these acids are responsible for tooth decay . To neutralize the acid formed tooth paste are basic in nature

When we eat, the sweet substance in the food remains on the teeth. Bacteria present in the mouth will feed in  this substance and produce acids which if left on the tooth, which will eat away the enamel and leads to cavities and decays.

 to overcome the action of acids, basic toothpaste are used.
