People who belong to the LGBT community are looked up on as different from the majority because of their different preference in selecting their partner. India is a country with age long traditions and a varied cultures. Accepting this change is difficult. In the modern world where people are voicing their opinions about their partners openly is really new to a 'semi-orthodox' society like India. Thus, when people from this community speak openly and come out to others is very shocking to the otherwise 'hush-hush' society.
One should not forget that LGBT's are a part of the society. Just because they are open about their preferences shall not cause them hatred in the society.
Respecting the age old culture/tradition is one part and respecting human rights and one's feeling is also another part.
