Variation helps in the adaptablity of the individual and helps in better survival of the species but these variations are not necessary for living because an organism can live without variation hence variation are beneficial for species but not necessary for individual.

Over time variation gets embedded in the gene of the species thereby providing them with a survival advantage . But for the individual the variation does not get embedded that easily and so the variation is useful for the species.
