Why are virus considered as living and nonliving both?

Viruses are considered as living and non-living both because when they are present in body of host they perform their function, they are able to reproduce , feed, respire.

But if they are outside the host's body they don't perform their function.

why viruses r considerd as liveng/alive?
because they r made up of nucleic acid(DNA OR RNA). they r made up of special protein called capsid.
why they r called non living ?
because they reproduce by the help of host body .
