why are viruses considered to be on the border line between the living and the nonliving

Viruses are considered on the borderline of living and non living because only when they are inside a living cell do they fulfil the criteria of being regarded as living entities. Outside, they act as non living entities.

Virus are considered to be on the border line between the living and non living becausw when the viruses are present in external environment they are death but when they enters in living body they becomes again alive
