Viruses are considered on the borderline of living and non living because only when they are inside a living cell do they fulfil the criteria of being regarded as living entities. Outside, they act as non living entities.

Answer: viruses are considered being a borderline between living and non-living organisms because they are totally lifeless while floating in air. They can be stored or even crystalised. They can remain outside for very long durations without any movement.

But when they come in contact with any host or body they quickly multiply them and reproduce, causing diseases.

Hence, due to their changing characteristics, viruses are called so.
