Why are we not a direct copy of one of our parents?

Because we contain the genes from both of our parent.

We are not the direct copy of one of our parents because as the gametes of both the parents fuse together to form the first cell of any individual that is Zygote.

So ,we get some features of our mother and some features of our father rather than being the exact copy of one of our parents.
