Why are we not able to perform to our full potential in the production of iron and steel in India? Explain any 3 reasons

Although India is an important iron and steel producing country in the world, we are not able to perform to our full potential largely due to the following reasons:

• High costs and limited availability of coking coal

• Lower productivity of labour

• Irregular supply of energy and

• Poor infrastructure.

• Most of the steel plants have old machinery and technology.  

• Most of the Intergrated plants are more than 40 years old.
