WHY ARE WELL DEVELOPED SOILS FOUND MOSTLY IN THE LOW LATITUDES?

1. Well-developed soils are found only in low latitudes because the rivers which come down from the mountains carry the sand and silt along with them, thus providing with well-developed soil.
2. The other reason is that the temperature and moisture in the lower latitudes are favourable for the chemical reactions regarding soil formation.

In the upper valley regions , the slope is undulating and sleep . So the soil layer gets washed away by running water and there is a thin layer of soil devoid of nutrients due to leaching.

In the lower regions , the slope is gentle and leveled so running water has not much force and does not cause much erosion. Instead, it deposits fine sediments of rocks at the sand banks which are fertile and suited for cultivation.
