because water exerts pressure on its side and if the sides are in equal length like a circle it will be suitable that's why the wells are cylindrical in shape

as the liquids always exerts pressure on the walls of the containers in which they are kept. so if there will be equal length , size and shape of a container , it will be easy for the person to take out the water from wells.
