Why are wells drying up nowadays?
Answers
Answer:
Some reasons for wells drying up are increase in demand of ground water, leaky streams, water table going down, natural reasons like underground rock's permeability etc.
Explanation:
When water levels drop below a pump intake ( depending on the quantity and frequency of aquifer pumping) a well is said to have gone dry.
The main reasons for wells drying up nowadays are: -
1.Increase in demand of ground water as population increases causes increase in the number of wells being dug up close to each other. This causes rapid depletion of ground water.
2. There are several leaky streams resulting in wells not getting replenished in the wells.
3. When the water table, also known as the top surface of the groundwater, lowers too far for a well's depth to reach it, the well is left high and dry and is a direct result of groundwater depletion. Researchers have discovered that millions of wells could dry up with even slight reductions in groundwater levels. The researchers discovered that between 6 and 20 percent of wells are no deeper than 5 metres (16 feet) below the water table after analysing information for around 39 million wells in 40 nations or territories.
4.The underground rock's porosity and permeability, the volume of recharge brought on by natural or artificial recharge are some other factors affecting the wells getting replenished.
