It's the day when you were born! It is very special to our family and friends as we important in their life..
So, Birthdays are celebrated to express the happiness of that person's birth into the world.

vyshnevisatheesh: If you think about it, birthdays are just us succumbing to the capitalist world again. We spend all our lives following the Gregorian calendar imposed by another white man, celebrating birthdays and new years which are marked only by this. Sure this day is special, I myself celebrated my sixteenth recently, but its just sad to think of how we have given ourselves away for the umpteenth time to the white man's world.
