Zero group elements are inert because they have completely filled outermost shells. Neither they have a tendency to lose or gain or share electron/electrons with other elements.

- The elements of group 0 have stable complete octate configuration.
- It means that they do not react with other elements easily, i.e., they have inert behavior.
- Thats why they called as inert gases.
