Why area of cross section gets doubled when wire is doubled

when length of the wire is doubled, the resistance also get doubled, as both are directly proportional. Now, the relation between the new and old resistance is.. Resistance of a wire is directly proportional to length of the wire and inversely proportional to cross sectional area of the wire.
