the resistance of a conductor is directly proportional to its length. ... so if length is doubled resistance will also get doubled i.e resistance is 4 times that of original resistance. now, the resistance of a conductor is inversely proportional the area of cross section

Resistance is directly proportional to area and inversely proportional to length. Hence if we increase resistance we get increased area and decreased length and vice - versa.
