Arthropods is been given this name and is been put in the classification of invertebrates because it has a segmented body and animal with jointed legs.The 4 classes of phylum Arthropods with examples are :

1. Crustaeca- crab, lobster etc.

2. Myriapoda - Centipide, millipede

3. Insecra- ant, housefly

4. Arachnida- spider, ticks

Atrhropods have been given his name as arthropod means jointed legs

They are further divided into four classes-

  • Crustacea- Head and thorax (middle part) are fused, have many jointed legs. Mainly live in water. Example- Crab, Shrimps , lobsters, Prawn etc.
  • Myriapoda- body is divided into many segments one or two pairs of legs on each segment. Example- Centipede,Millipede
  • Insecta - body is divided into three regions head thorax and abdomen. have 3 pairs of jointed legs. Head bears a pair antenna or feelers and mouth parts. Example- Ant , Housefly, Butterfly
  • Arachinda- head and thorax fused have four pairs of jointed legs have no Antennae. Example- Spider ️, Ticks, Scorpion
