Well, they could, if we had enormous amounts of oxygen-filled gas to feed into the engines. But even if you possibly could take a massive air tank to the moon, imagine all the other things on a car that might not work as designed... there’s no decent atmospheric air pressure to operate power assist devices, and I wonder whether a production engine would even start, given all the sensors that expect air pressure, and emissions devices, etc.
