why 'Atlantic ocean' is so-called a hearing pond??

Explanation:    Shoals of Herring found in great abundance in Northern Atlantic. Gulf of Maine, Gulf of St.lawrence, Davis strait , Norwegian sea and Bay of Biscay region marks the great shoals of Herring . that is the region why Atlantic sea is also called Herring pond.  

And this is also one reason... The eastern coast of North America I.e. the Atlantic ocean is the habitat of Herring fish in abundance.That's why it is called herring pond

They probably called it.because lots of herring fish found here than any other ponds
