Why atmosphere receives heat from the earth and not from sun?

Energy from the sun is transferred through space and through the earth's atmosphere to the earth's surface. Since this energy warms the earth'ssurface and atmosphere, some of it is or becomes heat energy.

Atmosphere doesn't recieve heat from the earth. The green-house gases capture the heat energy from sun so that the atmosphere will not be freezing at night.
