As we move from Left To Right

The atomic NUMBER increases

therefore, No. of proton and electron also INCREASES

As their no. increase, the Force of Attraction also INCREASES (bcoz of positive and negative charges)

Causes atomic size to Decrease.

When we go from left to right in a period the atomic size decreases because,

(1) The metallic character goes on decreasing while the non metallic character goes on increasing.

(2) Non metal gains the electron because they have tendency to gain electron.

(3) Due to gain of electrons the number of negative charge increases and positive change decreases.

(4) The nucleus becomes unstable because of the opposite charges and attracts the shell towards itself.

(5) By attraction of the nucleus the atom becomes small and this it's atomic radius means size decreases.

(6) Also another reason is while going in a period the new electron adds up and thus the negative charge increases.
