Why atomic size decreases from left to right in a period and increases down a group ???

the reason is if u go from left to right atomic size decrease becoz effective nuclear attraction means no of valence electrons increases and as electrons increses the nucleus attract more it towards it so size decreases where as in group there are less valence electrons so not much attraction. hope it helps uuuuu........
