why atoms become ions?

Divyankasc: Every thing in the universe wants a least energy and for that it needs to have a stable configuration. This can be achieved by filling the valence shell.Tahsts why they either gain or lose electrons and become ions
Divyankasc: That's*

ions are cations and anions... atoms are electrically neutral... it means it has both positive and negative charges equal in number... so, when it donates or excepts the charge it turns to cations or anions
