why babies keep all items in their mouth

Untill the baby is seven months old , he/she can't really use his/her fingers and hands to explore objects. But , he/she can control her lips and tongue. Babies have more nerve endings per square millimeter than any other body part. So , he/she mouth and gums as she pleases.
