Why bacteria show extensive metabolic diversity

The bacteria can live in various conditions and show diversity since some of them are autotrophic and some are heterotrophic. They can live in harsh conditions and can use chemicals too to synthesize their food(chemoautotrophs). Hence they are said to show extensive metabolic diversity
