Perennial plants are any of those plants which survive and sustain for a long time (many many years).

Annual plants on the other hand are plants which mostly survive for mainly a year and refer to mostly those plants which complete germination, growing, flowering, ripening of fruits and even developing seeds in a single year.

The Banyan tree is one such tree which can survive for many years (40-50 years or even hundreds of years).

Thus the banyan tree is perennial.
