Acceptor of electron pair is known as Lewis acid. Thus incomplete octet compounds are electron deficient and hence by accepting pair of electrons act as Lewis acids.

BeCl₂ is incomplete octet compound,it contains four electrons in the valence shell of central atom. Thus it forms coordinate bond with Lewis bases by accepting electron pair.

A Lewis acid can accept an electron pair. Since the central beryllium atom in BeCl2 has four electrons around it, it still has room to accept more. However, beryllium will then bear a negative charge, so BeCl2 will only be a weak Lewis acid.
