Benzoic acid do not undergo Friedel Crafts reactions because of following reasons :-

  • ✩ The carboxylic group is strongly deactivating.
  • ✩ The Lewis acid catalyst (AlCl3) gets bonded to the carboxylic group strongly.

☞benzaldehyde not showing friedel craft acylation and friedel craft alkylation because:-

  • ✩ the lone pair on oxygen will form a bond with AlCl3( which is a Lewis acid) and form a salt.
