Annie besant is one of the few foreigners who came to india and feel in love with indian people.
Annie besant was a British socialist, theosophist! Women right’s activist, writer and orator and supporter of irish and indian self rule.
In 1890 besant met with helena blavatsky and over the next year her interest in theosophy grew. She became the member of theosophical society and a prominent lecturer on this subject.
As a part of her theosophy related work she travelled to india. And became the president of theosophical society of india; founded home rule league in 1916 and demand self rule in india.
She toured entire country of india. It gave her first hand information about india and middle class indians that were affected by british rule and its system.
She became involved in indian freedom struggle and dedicated her life on india’s independence.
She became the first women president of indian national congres.
She was from irish origin and made india her second home.
