it is due to inert pair effect of ns2 electrons . ns2 electron does not take part in bond formation hence BiCl3 is more stable then BiCl5 hope my answer i s useful to u pls mark my answer as brainliest answer

The stability of a chemical compound depends on various subjects and characteristics.
Similarly, the stability of a chemical compound heavily depends on the oxidation numbers due to the inert pair effect.
In the BiCl3 compound, the oxidation number of the Bi is surprisingly +3 which is way more than the normal positive oxidation values.
That's why the BiCl3 compound is more stable than the BiCl5.
