Blood clotting is crucial in our body because when any blood vessel is broken or torn then the blood flows out of that vessel in the surrounding tissues that can lead to death by haemorrhage or external heavy bleeding.

Thrombocytes or blood platelets are associated with blood clot. The blood clot reaction starts by the release of a substance known as Thrombokinase which in the presence of Calcium ions converts prothrombin into thrombin which also in presence of calcium ions converts Fibrinogen protein (soluble) to Fibrin (insoluble) which forms a mess around the broken area which in turn stops the flow of blood outside the blood vessel
