Why bollywood actresses see a downfall in the carrier after marriage while actors does not see the same?

I think it’s a combination of Indian expectations for actresses, and for women in general. For their actresses, they expect them to work long hours, on multiple films at once, to make public appearances and give interviews, to always be present if they want to stay at the top of the profession. But, on the other hand, as women they are expected to marry and have children, preferably before they are 35. The end result is that they either have to buck society and never marry (as Rekha, for instance, has done), or give up their active career when they marry.
The other part of this is that characters in films are similarly expected to be married women once they cross 35. Meaning actresses who are visibly over that age are limited in the kinds of roles they are offered, as a romance leading to marriage is still a major component of any “heroine” part.
